SEXISM

I always believed that we were close to equality between males and females, or maybe that we are ALREADY equal. Well In Iran, this isn’t the case. I read a newspaper article a couple of days ago and I was extremely infuriated by what I read. Iran is as we are breathing drafting a law to limit places available for female students in college to 50%. FYI : Currently 65% of college students are female

I have no idea how anyone can create such a law. So now the 15 percent of females who are already in college are going to be kicked out? Let us imagine that one of the women, who are soon going to be kicked out, is a widow and she is seeking an education to get a job and get money for the family. NO, why should she study, she should stay at home and “attend to the family”. Isn’t getting financial aid part of “attending” to the family? Part of the law is also restricting women’s entry to medical schools, arguing that they [women] put a strain on limited-and sexually segregated – dormitory and transportation facilities”. The mentality in Iran is that a woman’s place is in the home and what is even more annoying, is there belief in something so absurd. I just have so much opposition to what they are doing; I am typing every single word so hard. I am against what they are doing because you cannot stand in the lives of people just because of their sex or something. You cannot continue your education because only 50 percent “of your kind” is allowed in colleges.

On April 2, 5 women activists were arrested because they were collecting signatures requesting for changes to laws that discriminate against women. With two of them getting sentenced to six months and another one a year? Why should they say no in something against them? Even in jail! Wow Iran, you are the “best” You are proud of yourself now with a crime rate of zero and full of amazing men (I am not against men don’t worry J) that you believe were made to make women feel very uncomfortable. Anyways even in prison, male prisoners get to smoke and drink tea as much as they like, while female prisoners are limited to two cigarettes and two cups of tea everyday. Men can exercise in sunshine, whereas women get their 15 minutes outdoors at sunset to sew or something.Come on!!

What have women done to Iran? I get really annoyed with things like this; instead of moving forwards countries like Iran prefer to move backwards. I congratulate you for this idiocy.

Even during punishment there is sexism?
